Urge Governor Meyer to protect Delawareans' civil liberties.
|
The Trump administration has begun devastating attacks on federal and constitutional protections with a flurry of Executive Orders. Now more than ever, Delaware’s reputation as the “First State” must motivate us to set an example as a leader in the fight for our civil rights and liberties.
Governor Meyer has already demonstrated strong leadership when it comes to pushing back against policies that endanger immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, those seeking reproductive healthcare, and students.
While serving as New Castle County Executive, he signed the “Safe and Inclusive Communities” Executive Order in response to President Trump’s deportation campaign in 2017, ensuring county police focused on community safety, not federal immigration laws, and guaranteeing equal access to county services regardless of immigration status.
During his 2024 gubernatorial campaign, Governor Meyer pledged to take actions to:
- Ensure undocumented children are protected and cared for;
- Guarantee an equitable education for all students; and
- Support the creation of a Reproductive Healthcare Equity Fund.
In his inaugural address just weeks ago, Governor Meyer promised Delawareans to use every power vested in his office to “protect our residents, our livelihoods, and our values” should the president or his administration “try to come into our communities to harass folks who came to our country, and our state, in search of a better life.”
During such chaotic and uncertain times, Governor Meyer’s commitments are welcome. We’re asking you to send a message to Governor Meyer thanking him for his commitments thus far and urging him to immediately issue an Executive Order refusing to cooperate with any action by the federal government that could deny Delawareans their constitutional rights.
Governor Meyer is not new to the fight to protect our state. Join us in thanking him for his past leadership and letting him know we have his back when he takes action to protect our most vulnerable residents.
Tell Governor Meyer: We support bold, proactive leadership and we need statewide protections in place now.
