ACLU-VT Freedom To Be Events

The ACLU of Vermont is bringing a queer and trans craft project to communities across the state through a series of Freedom To Be events. We are collaborating with local LGBTQ+ organizations to create spaces where queer folks can explore what autonomy and freedom mean to them through crafting & creating art.

This collaborative project, made up of a series of quilt-like panels, acts as a vessel to uplift the voices of queer and trans Vermonters. These events are an opportunity for folks to gather in community while reclaiming the narrative of their experiences. It is critical to amplify the voices of our queer and trans family and friends as anti-trans legislation continues to increase across the country. We invite queer and trans Vermonters and their allies to participate in this collaborative project.

This queer community craft project is a part of a national ACLU campaign which centers the voices of queer and trans people in America. It will culminate in the installation of a monument in Washington D.C. in the spring of 2025. The installation will be comprised of hundreds of quilt-like panels from across the country, including those created during the ACLU of Vermont’s events. The ACLU ultimately seeks to emphasize what we are fighting for in courts and communities across the country. This campaign acts as a reminder of the hope and possibility that exists when people have the freedom to be themselves

Below, you can RSVP to attend one or more of our upcoming events. Feel free to bring a friend and help us spread the word!
