ACLU of NH Advocacy Academy Application
When New Hampshire became the 19th state to pass explicit gender identity anti-discrimination protections in 2018, a strong message of bipartisan support was sent to the transgender community. Although this big win was over 10 years in the making, advocates knew that this was only the start and that plenty of hard work was still ahead to achieve a lived equality for transgender and gender non-conforming residents of New Hampshire. Recent attempts to delegitimize this identity at a national level only further illustrate what is at stake in our own state.
The ACLU of New Hampshire is excited to announce the launch of The ACLU-NH Advocacy Academy, a free statewide advocacy training series designed to help civil rights advocates achieve their fullest potential. The Advocacy Academy will empower participants to be strong advocates and explore their talents can be applied in the legislator, during the 2020 primaries, and in showing up for other marginalized communities.
The first iteration of the academy will run through March 2019 and will examine what still needs to be accomplished for our transgender neighbors. We are now taking applications for the upcoming Advocacy Academy sessions, scheduled to take place in Concord, Somersworth, Durham, Keene, and Plymouth, and encourage all to apply!
