Know Your Rights at Border Checkpoints

Join the ACLU of Arizona at Tubac Center of the Arts for a discussion about your rights at nearby border checkpoints.

Passing through a Border Patrol checkpoint on a daily basis is a reality for thousands of residents in Southern Arizona. If you are rushing to get to work or just headed to the grocery store, being detained and questioned about your citizenship can be, at best, an annoying inconvenience. Checkpoints have led to racial profiling and unconstitutional searches and are often criticized as being an ineffective use of tax dollars.

Join the ACLU of Arizona at Tubac Center of the Arts for a discussion about your rights at nearby border checkpoints. The discussion will be led by ACLU bilingual staff attorney Billy Peard, who currently represents plaintiffs in two important border rights cases. Participants will also have an opportunity to view the works of forty Arizona artists in the exhibit, “In This Together: Sixty Years of Daring To Create A More Perfect Arizona.”  The ACLU exhibit reflects 60 years of protecting the constitutional rights of all people.

Wednesday, March 27, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
