Keep Kids Learning Local Coalition Application

The Keep Kids Learning Campaign supports local juvenile justice advocates. While this is a statewide campaign, three localities (Orange, Polk and Manasota) were chosen for more direct engagement. Local Coalitions will be formed and supported in each of these counties to further the campaign’s goal of reducing the number of youth arrests and improving youth rehabilitation.

The Keep Kids Learning Campaign will support the local coalition with strategic planning, resources, training and administrative support. The local coalition will determine the local campaign’s target goal with the Campaign’s assistance. Sample goals include increasing the use of pre-arrest diversion programs, such as civil citations and school-justice partnerships; increasing the use of restorative justice programs in schools and communities; and improving conditions in detention centers and jails.

As part of designing and executing the local campaign plan, Coalition participants will:

  • Develop relationships with key partners, stakeholders and policy makers.
  • Attend relevant community meetings, including circuit advisory board meetings, county budget meetings, school board meetings, etc.
  • Participate in local coalition meeting and monthly calls with the Campaign.

The Keep Kids Learning Campaign will provide committed volunteers the tools and training they need to effectively advocate to local officials and the public for local reforms.

If you are interested in joining your local coalition and are willing to commit to eight to ten hours of volunteer work for juvenile justice advocacy monthly, please fill out the survey below and a Campaign representative will contact you shortly.
