ACLU of Washington Youth Essay Contest

Win a trip for two to the ACLU Membership Conference in Washington D.C.

The ACLU of Washington is excited to announce the 2018 Youth Essay Contest to win a trip to The ACLU Membership Conference. The conference offers an incredible opportunity to hear directly from the civil liberties leaders of today, meet the leaders of tomorrow, take part in historic activism, learn about government and the courts, and connect with like-minded allies from across the country. This is the first ACLU Membership Conference in ten years and the theme is “You Belong Here” – you don’t want to miss it!


The Youth Essay Contest is open to ANYONE between the ages of 16-23. The winner will receive travel, lodging and a stipend for themselves and a travel companion or guardian (participants under 18 must travel with a guardian) to the 2018 ACLU Membership Conference in Washington D.C. June 10-12, 2018.


Essay Question: What do you think is the most important civil liberties or civil rights issue your generation faces? Why? How will you work toward a solution?

Rules for entry:

  • Must be between the ages of 16-23 at time of conference
  • Must live in Washington state
  • Must submit all requested information by May 1, 2018
  • Must be able to travel June 9-13, 2018

To enter, please complete the entry form with your essay of 1,000 words or fewer by May 1st. The finalists will be interviewed (in person or over the phone) and a winner will be announced May 15th.
