Desert Chapter Board Elections

Dear ACLU Members:

It is time for our 2019 Chapter Board of Directors Election. On this page, you can read candidate profiles, submit your vote, and, should you opt-in, stay connected with the ACLU SoCal Desert Chapter.

In accordance with our bylaws, ACLU members who reside in the chapter’s region elect Chapter Directors to open Board seats. Candidates are running for three-year terms and the board is composed of staggered terms to allow one-third of the Board to term-out every year.

This election is open to ACLU members only. To verify your eligibility as a member, enter the last three digits of your membership number before submitting your marked ballot. Given our strong stands on privacy rights, votes are kept in complete anonymity from our eligibility verification.

Votes must be submitted by Friday, September 30, by 11:59 p.m.

2019 Slate of Candidates

Bill Hacket

Bill Hacket serves as a political consultant to campaigns and non-profits. Some of his recent work has centered on electing Sandra Chen Lau to the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees and Andy Wilson to the Pasadena City Council. In addition, Bill headed a community outreach effort for Pasadena Heritage. Bill Hacket is also an attorney licensed to practice in California and Massachusetts.

He is the former Chair of the Pasadena Area United Democratic Headquarters (UDH). This organization is a coalition of Democratic clubs that is tasked with opening a brick and mortar headquarters every two years with the sole purpose of getting Democrats elected to office.

In 2016, Bill took on the role of Campaign Manager for the headquarters. Volunteers made over 247,000 calls and hung 28,000 door hangers working out of a 7,000 square foot headquarters on South Lake Avenue in Pasadena. Tens of thousands of calls were made to battleground states in addition to the local effort.

Bill formerly worked as a District Director for the California State Assembly. He has served as a Senior Deputy to Assemblymembers Liu and Portantino. Bill is a graduate of Providence College and Southwestern University School of Law. He studied abroad one summer in Dublin, Ireland where he took a class in International Human Rights taught by the late State Supreme Court Justice Stanley Mosk.

Bill previously worked as a Senior Trial Attorney for Transamerica Corporation and has done consulting for the Entertainment Industry Development Corporation. Bill has served as manager on countless campaigns and is currently a member of several Democratic clubs and organizations.
