Slate of Candidates

Lewis Stewart

Please consider my candidacy for another three-year term on the Board of the ACLU Desert Chapter. I am a lifelong activist. My first political activity was in 1964, working to defeat the last Dixiecrat racist governor of Arkansas, Orval Faubus. In New York, I organized protests against the Vietnam War and graduated from Columbia University in 1973.

I picketed with Dolores Huerta during the grape boycott and worked with organized labor as a chief shop steward, discrimination officer and president. I also served as a direct-action coordinator for the Occupy movement and more recently, as a Desert Pass Chapter Board member where I’ve participated in Pride outreach, negotiated with local police agencies, and lobbied local elected officials in support of ACLU causes.
