Governor Inslee must use his executive powers to save lives in WA prisons

TAKE ACTION NOW

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread across Washington and the nation, Governor Inslee must take action to prevent an outbreak in Washington prisons, where close quarters make social distancing impossible. Send Governor Inslee a message and urge him to do everything he can to keep Washington prisons safe.

This action is brought to you by a joint partnership between Disability Rights Washington and the ACLU of Washington.

Your Message

The COVID-19 pandemic is the most urgent public health crisis in recent history. The Centers for Disease Control have issued guidance for social distancing and self-quarantining to help mitigate this crisis. But, in Washington's prisons, this guidance is impossible to adhere to.

Continued inaction is inexcusable. Please use the full extent of your executive powers, including the power of clemency, to ensure the release of medically vulnerable people and others who can be released now.

The more we can reduce the population of prisons across Washington, the less of a chance that those institutions become epicenters for this pandemic.

Other states have taken swift action to minimize the chance of catastrophe inside their prisons. Now is the time for you to act.

Sincerely,
