Protect our communities

The message:
We all deserve to move freely through our communities and access public services without fear of harassment or abuse. Yet, the Trump administration is engaged in a deliberate campaign to terrorize our communities with masked federal agents conducting indiscriminate and unlawful immigration raids – throwing people into unmarked vans, lurking outside schools and kids' baseball games, and attacking people in Home Depot parking lots. We have also seen ICE agents brazenly invading our community spaces like our schools, hospitals, and places of worship to stalk and arrest people from our communities.
With federal agents targeting these locations, people are rightfully afraid to enter these spaces, thereby preventing them from being able to utilize public spaces and essential services. People are outraged and are calling on their elected officials to protect them from the Trump administration's abuses of power. Our freedom is on the line. Our schools, our streets, and our communities should be safe from President Trump's secret police.
The legislature just passed two important bills to help better protect our communities and we are calling on Governor Scott to sign them when they reach his desk. S.209 prevents warrantless immigration arrests in public and government-owned buildings, such as schools and hospitals, to ensure all Vermonters can access these locations without fear of unlawful arrest. S.227 enhances these safeguards and puts additional procedures in place to protect student information and guard against warrantless arrests in schools.
To promote community safety and restore public trust in accessing vital services, such as schools and healthcare, we are calling on the governor to sign S.209 and S.227.
