Thank you for voting to repeal PNA!

As your constituent, I write to share my deep appreciation for your support of the of the Illinois Youth Health and Safety Act (HB 370). This measure sends a strong signal that our state supports young people – all young people – in making decisions about a pregnancy. The bill creates a bipartisan task force that will identify resources for pregnant and parenting youth – a task force that importantly includes youth voices.

Additionally, the bill repeals the dangerous Parental Notice of Abortion Act (PNA). Repealing PNA simply treats abortion the same as every other decision a youth may make about a pregnancy – from deciding to parent, to placing a child for adoption, to agreeing to medical procedures such as a caesarean section. Illinois law gives the young person the right to make these decisions without notifying a parent; we should treat abortion care the same.

Your “yes” vote affirmed our state’s policy that everyone should have the right to make their own decisions about their reproductive health care. Thank you for supporting the Illinois Youth Health and Safety Act.

Sincerely,
