Tell Mayor Adams: Keep state and church separate

Act Now

Ours is a nation and a city of many faiths and no faith. In order for our government to truly represent us, it must not favor any belief over another – including non-belief.

But in recent remarks, Mayor Adams and his top advisor had some galling things to say about the separation of church and state. Namely, that they don't believe in it.

TELL MAYOR ADAMS: The Constitution requires a wall between church and state.

Mayor Adams:

In remarks you made recently, you slammed the separation of church and state. Your top advisor said your administration doesn’t believe in this fundamental tenet of American democracy.

I’m writing to remind you of your oath to uphold the Constitution.

The first promise of the Bill of Rights includes this wall of separation: The government must remain a neutral non-participant.

Ours is a nation and a city of many faiths and no faith. In order for our government to truly represent us, it must not favor any belief over another – including non-belief.

On matters of faith, you are entitled to your personal beliefs. On the Constitution, you must uphold your oath.

Sincerely,
