I’m urging you not to sign New York up for a national school voucher program that could drain funding from public schools and undermine public education.

The voucher program was part of Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill”. Only one other blue state has opted in, you should not make New York the second.

Trump’s “Education Freedom Tax Credit” was crafted by right-wing actors whose ultimate goal is to eliminate public education in favor of religious schools. New York must stand up for public education, not give Trump and his allies credibility while funneling cash to religious organizations.

In the states that have similar voucher programs, costs have skyrocketed as schools raise tuition rates, and benefits flow mostly to wealthy families who already send their kids to private schools. These programs are wasteful, undemocratic, and increasingly unpopular among voters.

You should be looking for ways to direct more money to public education, not funneling it to private and religious schools with minimal oversight.
