The message:
Delawareans have made it clear time and time again. We want to see bold and quick action to meet the crisis of this moment.
Between January 2025 and March 10, 2026, 800 Delawareans were detained by ICE – a number that tripled from the year before. And that number has only continued to rise since March. This sharp increase in ICE activity has led to fear in the immigrant community with kids scared to go to school and people missing key doctor's appointments. In addition to fear in these community spaces, a troubling pattern of cooperation between Delaware law enforcement and ICE has caused a breakdown in trust between the immigrant community and law enforcement.
However, Delawareans stood up during the 2026 legislative session to loudly reiterate the call that our law enforcement should not be cooperating with ICE and that our state should urgently pass proactive immigration legislation. From meetings inside legislative halls, to community meetings, to a large rally, community determination saw the General Assembly pass:
HS 2 for HB 94 and HS 1 for HB 150 – limits Delaware law enforcement from assisting ICE enforcement at schools, medical facilities, places of worship and courthouses
HS 1 for HB 368 – limits the use of ICE detainers in Delaware
These bills are critical in helping to make sure that Delaware is not only a place where all our immigrant neighbors and their loved ones can feel safe and continue to thrive in Delaware.
The impact:
Members of the community have done their job; the General Assembly listened and passed this legislation, and now is time for the Governor to act. By sending the below message, you can urge the Governor to swiftly sign these immigration bills, making them law in Delaware.
