We are calling on South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster to withdraw South Carolina National Guard troops from President Donald Trump’s authoritarian takeover of American cities.

In early December 2025, Gov. McMaster announced that South Carolina National Guard troops would once again leave the state to participate in Trump’s federal takeover of Washington, D.C. The deployment is expected to last about 90 days. This is the second deployment of troops from South Carolina troops to the nation's capital, following an August deployment that sent 200 troops during the peak of hurricane season.

National Guard troops did not sign up to police American cities, nor are they trained to do so. This obvious abuse of power is a threat to public safety, a misuse of National Guard troops, and an affront to a free society. Use the message action below to demand that Gov. I am a South Carolinian, and I oppose sending South Carolina National Guard troops to participate in an authoritarian takeover of Washington D.C. This is a dangerous move by an out-of-control executive branch, and our state should play no part in it.

South Carolina National Guard members did not sign up to police American cities. They are not trained to take on the responsibilities of local law enforcement, to de-escalate conflict, or to carry out criminal investigations in accordance with our constitutional rights. By sending them to patrol an American city where they are neither needed nor wanted, you are wasting state resources and bringing embarrassment to our state.

Members of the South Carolina National Guard have obligations to their families and communities, and they should only be deployed in response to genuine emergencies. We depend on them to respond to natural disasters like floods and hurricanes. Instead, you are committing them to serve as shock troops against their fellow Americans. As the president threatens to send Guard members into other states and cities, I urge you to end the deployment and bring them home today.
