The message:

In the middle of the night, Donald Trump yanked trillions of dollars in federal funding for a vast array of critical services that were already approved by Congress.

Here's what that could mean: No federal money for housing or homeless shelters. No money for public safety. No money for domestic violence shelters, rape kits, or addiction treatment centers. No money for school and senior citizen meal programs. No money for disaster relief, education, housing, health care, nutrition, transportation, small business loans, and nonprofit services. We'll be clear: The decision to pause trillions of dollars in grants, loans, and other funding streams will have devastating consequences for every single person in this country.

This order is a reckless, cruel, and unprecedented power grab. President Trump thinks he alone should get to decide who gets federal money and who doesn't, attacking essential services for everyone just to punish those who don't fit with his political ideology, without regard for our safety – or the Constitution.

There is good news: A federal court has ordered a temporary halt to Donald Trump's sweeping federal funding freeze after nonprofits, public health officials, and state attorneys general all sued. But now we need to make sure it doesn't go into effect at all.

Subject:

Fight Trump's cruel block on federal funding

Body:

As your constituent, I'm writing to express my extreme concern over Donald Trump's executive order freezing all domestic and foreign federal aid and the devastating consequences this will have on each and every person in this country.

This unprecedented and far-reaching order means that seniors could go hungry, addiction treatment clinics could cancel appointments, schools may need to freeze meal programs, and domestic violence shelters may close their doors. It will also impact crucial programs designated for disaster relief, public safety, infrastructure, and even small business loans.

President Trump thinks he alone should get to decide who gets federal money and who doesn't. But these federal grants and programs have already been approved by Congress, and our constitution makes clear that only Congress has the power of the purse – not the president.

Even a temporary pause in funding will have devastating consequences. I’m urging you, as my representative in Congress, to fight back on behalf of the people you represent.

Sincerely,
