Take Action for the ROE Act

TAKE ACTION NOW

In a win for the movement for reproductive freedom, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a Louisiana law that was designed to close abortion clinics and cut off access to care. This decision affirms that people should not be forced to jump through hoops to access basic medical care. Here in Massachusetts, such barriers are still a reality: young people seeking abortion are forced to go to court to plead their case to a judge, and families who receive a lethal fetal diagnosis later in pregnancy must travel across the country for abortion care. These obstacles make abortion care simply unobtainable for many young people, people of color, and people with low incomes. Now more than ever, our state must ensure safe and legal abortion is truly accessible for all. Massachusetts needs the ROE Act.

People, not politicians, need to control their bodies. We must build upon the Court’s welcome decision by knocking down barriers to access in our state. In this moment, our state lawmakers must stand up for our health and rights and support the ROE Act. Fill out this form to send messages to your State Representative and State Senator to ask them to prioritize the ROE Act.

On June 29, the Supreme Court of the United States struck down an anti-choice Louisiana law. The Court’s decision in June Medical Services v. Russo again found that restrictions, designed to delay and deny abortion care, are unconstitutional. Though this is a victory for reproductive freedom in Louisiana, the decision does not change the fact that Massachusetts law upholds politically motivated barriers to abortion care. In the wake of this decision, Massachusetts lawmakers must address inequities in our state’s policies on abortion care and continue our state’s national leadership on protecting reproductive freedom.

I appreciate your leadership supporting the safe, legal and accessible abortion, but even our state has abortion restrictions that push care out of reach. Now, Massachusetts has an opportunity to lead the nation by passing the ROE Act (S. 1209, H. 3320).

I believe every person should be able to access safe, legal abortion without undue delay or burden. I respectfully urge you to prioritize passage of the ROE Act this legislative session to ensure that safe, legal abortion is truly accessible to all.

The ROE Act improves abortion access in Massachusetts and protects patients. Among other important provisions, the ROE Act will protect the health and safety of young people seeking abortion by ensuring they no longer have to navigate the court system to access medical care. The ROE Act trusts medical professionals, ensuring doctors no longer have to send their patients away when they need abortion care later in pregnancy due to a lethal fetal diagnosis.

The U.S. Supreme Court just protected access to abortion care in Louisiana. States must now guarantee real abortion access for their residents. It’s up to us to make access a reality across our Commonwealth. Massachusetts can continue its legacy of protecting reproductive rights and access to health care by passing the ROE Act.

Sincerely,
