Stop the State School Board’s Anti-LGBTQ Resolution

State Board of Education's (SBOE) revised resolution being proposed by Board Members Brendan Shea and Mike Toal is an all-out attack on LGBTQ+ youth, especially transgender and gender nonconforming youth. While the SBOE has no power to enforce its resolutions, this particular resolution would continue a trend of bullying LGBTQ+ youth in the name of scoring political points.

Though the Board’s Executive Committee removed some of the troubling provisions in Board Member Shea’s original resolution, the revised product still contains blatant misinformation about what it means to be transgender and gender-nonconforming. Above all, the resolution still sends a message to LGBTQ+ youth, in particular trans and gender nonconforming youth, that the SBOE does not believe their identities and their experiences are valid.

TAKE ACTION and tell SBOE members that they should reject this resolution. Instead, urge them to focus on making our schools safer spaces for LGBTQ+ youth.
