SHUT DOWN ADELANTO

TAKE ACTION NOW

No matter who you are or where you come from, we all have rights.

But for so long, ICE and the private corporation GEO Group have denied people in their custody the basic rights to access attorneys, medical care, and safe food and water at the Adelanto and Desert View Annex detention centers.

GEO Group and ICE have violated federal standards governing immigration detention:

  • Privileged conversations between detained individuals and their attorneys are continuously disrupted to the point of eliminating access to legal representation.
  • In lieu of treatment, individuals contemplating suicide are placed in solitary confinement, which can have detrimental and potentially fatal effects.
  • Critical care including surgeries that have been approved have been significantly delayed; some stalled for months.
  • Retaliation for participating in First Amendment-protected actions such as hunger strikes.

At least eight people have died in ICE custody at the Adelanto facility since 2011. No one – no family – deserves this.

It is clear that GEO Group is incapable of operating a safe facility and that the only solution is to close these detention centers.

Take action.

Sign the letter to demand 1) the closure of Adelanto facility as promised once and for all and 2) state and local investment in industries that do not harm or oppress our communities.

Shut Down Adelanto Now. It’s time.
To ICE Leadership, Office of Immigration Detention Ombudsman:

I join the Shut Down Adelanto Coalition, the ACLU SoCal and hundreds of community members in demanding the closure of the Adelanto and Desert View Annex detention centers.

ICE and the private corporation GEO Group have denied people in their custody their basic rights to access attorneys, medical care, and safe food and water for too long. It is clear GEO Group is incapable of operating a safe facility, and the only solution is to close these detention centers.

Instead, I join community members and activists who are calling for a just transition of Adelanto. One that is focused on the creation of jobs and industries that are high quality, well-paying and sustainable without relying on incarcerating people or denying them their rights.

Sincerely,
