The message:

We all know ourselves best. We don't need anyone to define us, to tell us who we are.

Yet that's exactly what some of our elected leaders are trying to do.

House Bill 1184, legislation that attempts to place antiquated gender assumptions as a rule of law, would label unique, complex South Dakotans by only their reproductive capabilities. By codifying definitions of "man" and "woman" into state law, this bill has sweeping consequences – everything from threatening state and local government contracts with businesses and organizations that do not define man and woman to erasing transgender, nonbinary, and intersex people from daily life and denying them equal protection.

Passing a law that conflicts with federal regulations just to target a small group of South Dakotans is outright bullying. Please help us send a message loud and clear to our legislators that South Dakotans oppose House Bill 1184.
