Tell your elected officials NO to Personhood Act!

As the 2019-2020 legislative session continues, some politicians in South Carolina are trying to interfere with a woman's access to pregnancy planning methods.

"Personhood," a bill which would grant full legal rights to a fertilized egg, has now been introduced in both the South Carolina House and Senate.

By defining “personhood” from the moment of fertilization, before pregnancy has occurred, this bill would:

  1. Threaten access to effective contraceptive methods,
  2. Push the use of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and other fertility treatments out of reach;
  3. Subject a woman who suffers pregnancy-related complications or miscarriage to extensive criminal investigation and jail time or potential charges of reckless endangerment or homicide; and
  4. Ban abortion.

Such outcomes would deprive individuals of control over their fertility and deprive a woman of control over her body. It’s time we tell legislators that this is not okay.

I oppose the Personhood Act of South Carolina, and you should, too.

I urge you to refuse to let this bill or any other similar measure to become law.
