Say NO to ICE in Howard County

TAKE ACTION NOW

Howard County residents have been showing up at town hall meetings, calling, emailing, and having meetings with County Council members for months urging them to end the contract between ICE and the Jessup detention center. But, until the County Council passes (CB) 51, and County Executive Ball signs it, ICE will keep renting beds from the county detention center and separating families. But we are so close in the fight to end this contract once and for all.

We cannot continue to value profit over the well-being and safety of immigrants. And as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, there is a great need to reduce the number of people held in detention.

Along with our partners CASA, Indivisible, Jews United for Justice, Our Revolution Howard, and other members of the Howard County Coalition for Immigrant Justice, we are calling on the County Council to pass (CB) 51, and for County Executive Ball to sign it. Together, we will keep showing up until they do the right thing.

It’s long past time for Howard County to end the contract with ICE. Send a message to the Howard County Council Members to pass (CB) 51 and for County Executive Ball to sign it.

Your Message
Dear County Council Members and County Executive Ball,

As a resident, I am concerned that Howard County still has not ended the contract between ICE and the detention center in Jessup. I urge you to pass (CB) 51 and sign it into law as soon possible.

We cannot continue to value profit over the well-being and safety of immigrants.

Also, by not being detained, more immigrants will more easily be able to solicit legal representation, and remain with their families.

To live up to its values of inclusion and equity, Howard County should no longer collaborate with ICE and its racist policies. As elected members of Howard County leadership, I urge you to do everything in your power to keep all our residents safe and finally end the ICE contract.

Sincerely,
