Tell Portsmouth leaders: Protect our privacy from surveillance!

The RI State Police have asked the Portsmouth Town Council to allow them to install a Flock Safety brand automated license plate reader (ALPR) camera in Portsmouth. Flock Safety cameras can capture much more information than just license plates, and they can share that data with other police departments and federal agencies across the country, creating a network of surveillance technology.
For example, Flock Safety camera data has been used by ICE to find and target people, and a woman in Texas was tracked down because she was seeking an abortion.
The issue: Regardless of what the police say their intentions are in using the system, there are no guardrails in state law or town ordinance protecting our privacy rights, our data, or government transparency in the usage of Flock Safety cameras.
That's why we need your help. Fill out this form to contact the Portsmouth Town Council and urge them to reject any Flock Safety cameras. We've given you a template below, edit the middle paragraph to explain why privacy is important to you!
