Stop HB 183, Ohio’s Anti-Trans Bathroom Bill

Take Action

House Bill 183 would require students in primary and secondary schools as well as institutions of higher education to use restrooms and other facilities that align with their sex assigned at birth. It would also prohibit them from sharing overnight accommodations with individuals of the opposite sex from their sex assigned at birth. This is yet another state-sponsored attack on transgender, gender-nonconforming, and intersex (TGNCI) youth and young adults.

Legislators have no business telling TGNCI people what restrooms or locker rooms to use. Transgender people who are forced to use the restroom or locker room that does not align with their gender identity risk being bullied, harassed, or outright targeted for violence.

HB 183 would create an unsafe environment for TGNCI people across our school districts and college campuses. Because of its apparent lack of any enforcement mechanism, it encourages individuals to profile and single out those whom they believe to be transgender, gender-nonconforming, or simply not masculine/feminine “enough.”
