Protect Free Speech on Public Campuses Now

Across the country, we've seen a surge in proposed anti-free speech legislation, including efforts to silence anyone who criticizes Israel, or speaks out against U.S. government policies on Israel and Palestine. Already, Florida officials attempted to order public universities to deactivate chapters of the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), in violation of the students' First Amendment rights.

The ACLU fought back in Florida, and is now urging lawmakers to protect our colleges from censorship and vote against bills that threaten students' right to free speech. Join us today by sending a letter to your Congressmember, urging them to uphold constitutionally-protected speech nationwide.

Protect Free Speech on Public Campuses

I’m writing to you today to urge you to protect the constitutional right to free speech in the face of rising censorship on public university campuses, including harmful efforts to silence students and professors who criticize Israel or speak out against U.S. government policies on Israel and Palestine.

We have already seen attempts in Florida to limit this protected political expression, but we don’t lose our right to free speech at the campus gates.

In colleges and universities across the country, students’ ability to express dissent and advocate for causes they believe in, across a range of issues, has never been more vital – or more vulnerable – than right now. Please do everything within your power to protect the right to free expression.

Sincerely,
