The message:

The Trump administration is trying to commandeer the annual budget process to wreak havoc on our civil rights and liberties. As we speak, members of Congress are sneaking poison pills into government funding bills – and we can't let that happen. Our fundamental rights are NOT bargaining chips for government funding. That's why we must act.

Send a message now and tell your representatives to firmly oppose poison pills that:

  • Restrict access to reproductive and gender-affirming medical care;
  • Greenlight taxpayer-funded discrimination against married same-sex couples and their families;
  • Take education, transportation, and health funding away from states, counties, and cities that refuse to use their own resources to help Trump's masked, heavily armed deportation squads;
  • Ban government programs that address our longstanding history of discrimination, like those focusing on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Tell your representatives to vote no on any poison pills and pass clean spending bills that don't restrict our rights.

The recipients:

U.S. House and U.S. Senate

We put in some suggestions, but make the message your own where possible!

Subject:

Don't compromise our freedom: Pass clean appropriations bills

Body:

As your constituent, I am calling on you to prioritize the well-being of the people you represent by taking immediate action. It is imperative that you pass clean appropriations bills that do not compromise our essential rights. We cannot allow poison pills like provisions targeting LGBTQ people, service members, immigrants, communities of color, and people in need of reproductive care to be included in government funding legislation.

Please take decisive action to oppose any appropriations bills that threaten our civil liberties and ensure that our rights are protected.

Sincerely,
