Our Constitution guarantees a reasonable expectation of privacy. When it comes to privacy, there's nothing more personal than our genetic information, and our government shouldn't be storing it in a permanent database.
The proposed bill, Senate Bill 912, would create a massive genetic surveillance program – seizing DNA from Pennsylvanians arrested, even from juveniles. People arrested but not convicted are innocent until proven guilty, have the right to due process of law, and should not be surveilled by default. And given that Black and brown and low-income communities are overpoliced, this expansive DNA collection will disproportionately surveil our most vulnerable communities.
DNA is not the same as a fingerprint. Contact your state senator and tell them no massive DNA surveillance of our communities. Vote "No" on SB 912.
