Oppose bills that gut BIPA!
Dear State Legislator,

As a resident of Illinois concerned about protecting personal private information, I urge you to reject any proposal designed to gut the Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). After more than a decade of protecting biometric information in Illinois, BIPA is now under attack. The only winners from weakening BIPA would be companies that want to access and monetize the private information of Illinois residents, including big data companies.

Over the past few years, a handful of large companies lost court cases regarding violations of BIPA. Rather than find ways to adhere to the modest privacy protective requirements of the law, they are asking the Illinois legislature to change the law – meaning that they intend to continue to violate the law.

This behavior should not be rewarded.

I urge you to stand with Illinois residents over powerful corporations and oppose any effort to undermine BIPA.

Sincerely,
