STOP Anti-Abortion Lawmakers from Advancing HB480

Anti-choice lawmakers in Ohio have introduced yet another dangerous piece of anti-abortion legislation. House Bill 480 allows private citizens to sue anyone who they believe has either received an abortion, or has helped someone receive an abortion.

The architects behind this type of legislation employ a multi-state strategy, not satisfied until the most extreme bills are multiplied and duplicated across the country. The unfortunate reality is that dangerous, anti-abortion legislation spreads like wildfire. Anti-choice legislation has already been enacted across the country in states like Texas and Idaho, and Oklahoma is poised to be next. The impact to people in those states is devastating.

HB 480 is a among the more extreme version of similar bounty hunter abortion bans recently passed in other states. In addition to deputizing citizens against each other, HB 480 goes further by banning ALL abortions. The anti-abortion lawmakers behind this legislation want to close the window for care entirely by banning abortion as early as "fertilization." This extremist language means that no matter what stage of pregnancy a person might be in, they would not be able to make their own decisions regarding their own body.

The facts are clear: The majority of Ohioans support abortion access. HB 480, along with other anti-choice bills moving through the legislature, ignores public opinion and denies us healthcare.

As anti-choice politicians continue their attempts to unconstitutionally ban abortion access, we are doing everything in our power to stop this bill in its tracks and prevent it from receiving a committee vote.

TAKE ACTION: Contact the members of the House Families, Aging, and Human Services Committee and urge them to STOP HB 480 from advancing.
