Ohio Leaders: Denounce Steve Huffman’s Racist Remarks

TAKE ACTION NOW

State Senator Steve Huffman made inexcusable, racist remarks against people of color and he must be held accountable. The ACLU of Ohio calls on him to step down from office. Join us in asking his colleagues in the Ohio General Assembly to do the same.

During a hearing on whether to declare racism a public health crisis, Steve Huffman asked if the ‘colored population’ is hit harder by the coronavirus because ‘perhaps they don’t wash their hands as well as other groups.’

This is what systemic institutionalized racism looks like; this is how systemic institutionalized racism manifests itself and oppresses the day to day lives of people of color.

There is no reality where he can remain a member of the Ohio General Assembly and make decisions that affect the very communities he undermines and clearly holds abhorrent attitudes about.

Take action NOW and urge Ohio elected officials to denounce this hateful rhetoric and call on Senator Steve Huffman to step down from public office.
