Students Deserve Smarter Sex Education

There is currently no requirement that New York schools teach sex education – and many don’t. Of the public schools across New York that do provide sex education, the curriculum is often inaccurate, incomplete, and stigmatizing.

Gaps in sex education leave New York’s students ill equipped to keep themselves safe and healthy. And a lack of education allows stereotypes about gender and LGBTQ people, misinformation, and toxic relationships to spread.

TAKE ACTION: Tell state lawmakers we need comprehensive, age-appropriate sex education in all public schools across the state.

Your Message

I am writing to urge you to support a bill to provide comprehensive, age-appropriate sex education in public schools across the state.

Lack of education allows stereotypes, misinformation, and toxic relationships to spread.

Legislation introduced in Albany, A-6512 (Nolan/Gottfried)/S-4844 (Metzger/Montgomery), requires public schools to teach medically accurate and inclusive K-12 comprehensive sex education that is age-appropriate and reflects national standards and best practices.

This legislation will help combat bullying and discrimination as well as sexual harassment and violence. It will also help reduce poor health outcomes and promote healthy relationships. It deserves your support.

Sincerely,
