This year legislators passed a bill that would provide life-saving HIV preventive care to minors who experience sexual assault.

I am writing to demand that you sign this bill into law.

It is my understanding that A.1204-A/S.2279-A, which provides HIV preventative treatment for minors after sexual assault, is on your desk and needs your signature. It’s unthinkable that young survivors of sexual could be denied life-saving care if the bill is not signed.

Young people ages 13-24 accounted for one in five new HIV cases in 2016. A.1204-A/S.2279-A enables survivors to receive timely preventive care by requiring that treating hospitals make the full 28-day PEP regimen available.

In these cases, young people are facing the worst trauma of their lives.

Without this law, sexual assault survivors who could not get help from their parents — and there are many — would be left without the medicine they need to prevent HIV.

Time is running out and survivors are counting on you. Please do the right thing and sign this bill into law.

Sincerely,
