Pass the New Jersey Immigrant Trust Act

Act Now

Far too many immigrant New Jerseyans and their families live in fear that a routine interaction with law enforcement, a visit to the emergency room, or even a school drop-off will result in separation from their loved ones and deportation.

Tell your state lawmakers: we must build a fair and welcoming state for all people – regardless of immigration status. It’s past time for New Jersey to end its participation in the federal detention and deportation machine and support immigrant families across our state. That’s why we must pass the Immigrant Trust Act.

Since January, immigrants in New Jersey and around the country have been the target of unprecedented attacks by the Trump administration. From attacks on birthright citizenship and due process to the turbocharging of immigration enforcement and detention, the threats to immigrants and their families are escalating. And with the passage of the federal budget reconciliation bill, which funnels $75 billion to ICE, the attacks will only get worse.

Now, more than ever, we need state lawmakers to stand with immigrant New Jerseyans. That means ending New Jersey’s participation in the federal detention and deportation machine. Though the Garden State has taken essential steps to mitigate its role in this cruel system through the adoption of the Immigrant Trust Directive, more must be done to build a truly fair and welcoming state for all people regardless of immigration status.

This moment calls for action and leadership. New Jersey can join other states – including Connecticut and California – in ending its complicity in harmful federal immigration enforcement. I urge you to vote "yes" in support of the Immigrant Trust Act, and to help build a stronger, fairer, and more welcoming New Jersey for everyone who calls this state home.

Sincerely,
