This legislative session we are seeing increased efforts from lawmakers to enforce mandatory minimum sentences, which are arbitrary one-size-fits-all sentences that have been proven to be ineffective, unjust, and expensive.
Currently, the New Hampshire Senate is looking to advance two mandatory minimum sentence bills, SB 14 and SB 15, which would over-punish individuals for certain drug-related crimes and contribute to mass incarceration across the Granite State.
If passed, these bills would ignore the unique circumstances of each case, take discretion away from judges and what they see fit for sentencing, and undermine critical constitutional rights of people accused of a crime.
Will you help us stop these bills and advocate for holistic, fair solutions to justice reform?
