Stand up for immigrant communities: #StopHB370

TAKE ACTION NOW

As the Trump administration continues to attack the rights of immigrants and pursue its deportation agenda, North Carolina lawmakers are debating a bill that would make it easier for federal immigration officers to terrorize communities across our state.

House Bill 370 would force every North Carolina sheriff to help Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deport community members and hold people in jail for prolonged periods, possibly violating the Constitution. If sheriffs refuse to cooperate, local governments could be fined up to $25,000 a day.

The bill was written by anti-immigrant lawmakers in response to the growing number of North Carolina sheriffs who voters elected after they pledged to stop helping ICE to target and detain community members.

We know that when local law enforcement officers get involved in federal immigration law, it creates fear and mistrust in our communities, and it harms public safety.

Local law enforcement agencies have no business doing ICE’s bidding. Tell your representative to oppose ICE’s deportation agenda and vote against this dangerous anti-immigrant measure.

Your Message

As your constituent, I urge you to vote against House Bill 370.

This dangerous proposal would take away authority from local sheriffs and force them to divert our resources to do the bidding of federal deportation officers. We know that when law enforcement officers get involved in federal immigration law, it creates fear and mistrust in our communities, discourages people from reporting crimes, and makes us all less safe.

Please support local law enforcement, respect the will of voters, and vote no on House Bill 370.

Sincerely,
