Did you know the right to abortion is enshrined in our state Constitution? Yet, abortion seekers in MA must still navigate arbitrary gestational restrictions that don’t account for all complications that can arise throughout a pregnancy.

State reps recently passed a bill expanding abortion access, allowing Massachusetts doctors to prioritize the health and safety of their patients first, without fear of government interference. Now it's time for state senators to follow suit.

The state Senate has stood up for abortion access repeatedly, passing the ROE Act and Shield laws to protect people seeking care in Massachusetts. Thank you for your leadership.

However, despite those important reforms, each year, dozens of patients are forced to leave the Commonwealth to get necessary health care because our law still imposes arbitrary restrictions later in pregnancy. We mustn’t allow this to continue.

Please pass the Prioritizing Patient Access to Care Act (S.1563) to make abortion care in Massachusetts more accessible.

The decision to have an abortion should be made by a patient and their doctor. The choice should not be dictated by arbitrary rules imposed by the government.

Despite important reforms passed into law the past few years, patients in Massachusetts are still being denied critical healthcare later in pregnancy.

That’s why I’m asking you to please support the Prioritizing Patient Access to Care Act, which would eliminate the statutory exceptions framework governing abortion care later in pregnancy. This bill would let doctors provide care throughout a pregnancy based on their professional judgment.

Unexpected complications or devastating diagnoses sometimes make it necessary to perform an abortion later in pregnancy.

Yet, remaining abortion restrictions force dozens of patients to travel out of state for this critical care, spending tens of thousands of dollars on child care, flights, hotels, and the procedure itself. They are also forced to be far away from their support networks during an extremely challenging time.

No patient should have to leave the state to access potentially lifesaving care, and no provider should be put in the position to deny or delay care because of legal uncertainty.

Nine states and D.C. do not have the kind of arbitrary gestational limits for abortion that prevent people from getting necessary care here in the Commonwealth.

Massachusetts should pass the Prioritizing Patient Access to Care Act and continue to do everything in the state’s power to eliminate harmful barriers to healthcare!
