The Governor’s veto of Senate Bill 9 was key to maintaining access to abortion care in the Commonwealth. Join us in thanking him and the lawmakers who voted no on SB 9.
The Kentucky General Assembly passed Senate Bill 9, an anti-abortion bill, in the final hours of the legislative session. SB 9 was based on myths and lies about abortion care, patients who receive this care, and the doctors who care for them.
Senate Bill 9 was amended in the House to add the provisions of House Bill 451. The final version would have taken oversight of abortion providers from career health experts at the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, and permanently given it to the Office of the Attorney General. AG Cameron made clear that if given this authority, he would shut down abortion providers during the ongoing COVID-19 state of emergency.
