No child should be tortured for living as their true self. Some children are subject to a practice known as conversion therapy, a debunked practice seeking to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

According to Ban Conversion Therapy Kentucky (BCTKy) (, conversion “therapists” use a variety of shaming, emotionally traumatic, or physically painful stimuli to make their victims associate those stimuli with their LGBTQ identities — all based on the scientifically discredited premise that being LGBTQ is a defect or disorder.

BCTKy also found that 42% of people who survived this torture have attempted or seriously considered suicide.

Protecting our children from this dangerous practice cuts across party lines, geography, and more. Several Kentucky communities have already adopted local bans, and more than 380 republican lawmakers throughout the U.S. have supported bans.

This legislation has enjoyed bi-partisan support in the Kentucky General Assembly, too! As your constituent, I respectfully urge you to support House Bill 12 to protect all Kentucky children from conversion torture, no matter where in the commonwealth they live.
