Governor Brown: Reduce Prison Use
TAKE ACTION NOW
Use the form below to tell Gov. Kate Brown you’re concerned for the health of people who are incarcerated and working in Oregon’s prisons, their families, and the surrounding communities who are at risk of being exposed.
Despite inadequate testing and minimal transparency from the state, we know COVID-19 is already spreading among inmates and corrections officers in Oregon prisons. Our state prisons are crowded, making effective social distancing is impossible. Inaction from the governor will unfairly impact people of color, who are both overrepresented in Oregon prisons and are disproportionately contracting and dying from COVID-19.
Once the virus invades the prison environment, it can quickly turn into an outbreak and overwhelm community health resources. People cycle in and out of prisons everyday, including corrections staff, delivery workers, and people who are detained. This virus can’t be locked in or out.
Delivered to: Governor Kate Brown.
