Background

The surveillance company Flock Safety is blanketing American cities with dangerously powerful and unregulated automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras – including Flagstaff. While license plate readers have been around for some time, Flock is the first to create a nationwide mass-surveillance system out of its customers’ cameras. Local police departments are routinely sharing Flock ALPR data with federal officials, giving the federal government the power to track the movements of virtually any person without oversight or limitation.

The recipients

Flagstaff City Council: Mayor Becky Daggett, Vice Mayor Miranda Sweet, Councilmember Austin Aslan, Councilmember Khara House, Councilmember Lori Matthews, Councilmember Anthony Garcia, and Councilmember David Spence.

The impact

Flock Cameras pose a blatant violation of our rights and privacy. The invasive surveillance of our communities must stop now. Contact Flagstaff City Council and demand they remove Flock Cameras from our community!
