Tampa Citizen Review Board

TAKE ACTION NOW

The Tampa City Council will discuss the drafting of an ordinance that would allow the Citizens Review Board (CRB) to obtain independent counsel. This critical change would bring more accountability and transparency to police oversight by giving the Citizen Review Board the power to do its job more effectively.

Now is the time to act! Tell the City Council to advance police transparency!

Dear Tampa City Council Members,

Very few communities feel that they have true oversight of their police departments. The Tampa community has a real opportunity to ensure police transparency and accountability by providing the Citizen Review Board (CRB) with the tools necessary to enhance trust between police and the community. Tampa’s CRB needs to have the same tools that the citizen-oversight boards of other Florida cities and counties already have.

As a resident of Tampa, I urge you to advance an ordinance that would allow the CRB to obtain independent counsel during your meeting on Thursday, February 16.

As a Tampa resident, I want to thank you for your leadership and courage in continuing to advance more independence, community representation, and oversight of the Tampa Police Department through an effective and meaningful Citizen Review Board.

When our Citizen Review Board is empowered to have true oversight of our police department, everyone benefits. Thank you for considering this important proposal.
