Demand OC Board of Supervisors Keep Independent Oversight

The OC Board of Supervisors will try to eliminate three different forms of independent oversight over county government. The Board’s decisions are a significant escalation in its long history of systematically dismantling transparency and accountability mechanisms in Orange County while consolidating power within the Board. Tell the Board that these are not the actions of a democratic institution and demand they keep independent oversight.

Dear Members of the Board of Supervisors:

I am deeply concerned by the Board’s efforts to completely dismantle independent oversight in Orange County. It is very troubling that the Board is trying to remove auditing and financial control oversight from independently elected Auditor-Controller Woolery, in what appears to be retaliation for the legitimate investigations of members of the board. It is equally disturbing that you voted to defund the Office of Independent Review, after leaving the Director position vacant for 2 years.

Orange County needs better independent oversight; instead the board appears to want to remove all checks and balances. As your constituent, I do not support these resolutions to eliminate the current transparency and accountability mechanisms.

Sincerely,
