The Background:

We're going to the Supreme Court this October to argue – once again – for fair maps that give Black voters a meaningful say at the polls. In Louisiana v. Callais, we're fighting to protect Louisiana's new congressional map that gives Black voters an opportunity to elect candidates of their choice in two districts instead of just one.

This map only exists because of our previous lawsuit – where we won that second district by demonstrating that Louisiana's original map violated the Voting Rights Act by cracking and packing Black Louisianians into districts that diluted their voting strength. Diluting Black voting power is textbook discrimination – and this case directly threatens our hard fought for wins, fair representation across the country, and our ability to remedy racial discrimination in voting.

While we fight in court to protect the right to vote, we need your help to bring this fight to Congress. The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would restore the Voting Rights Act to its full power and expand its protections, putting a check on diluting minority voting power and other forms of voting discrimination. Tell Congress to act now to pass this vital legislation.
