The message:

Programs of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) seek to address the glaring inequities in South Carolina’s schools and institutions. South Carolina House Bill 3927 would prohibit DEI programs in all state agencies, K-12 public schools, colleges, and universities.

The impact:

This bill is more than a solution in search of a problem. It is a problem in itself. H. 3927 says that all state agencies and schools "shall not establish or support any office, unit or division within that agency that is established or exists in whole or in part, for the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion." After hearing four-and-a-half hours of nonstop testimony from South Carolinians asking them to throw out the bill entirely, the House Education and Public Works Committee voted to approve this revised but still harmful version of the bill on March 19, 2025.
