End ICE's Dangerous 287(g) Program

Across the country, as the Trump administration’s attacks on immigrants reach a fever pitch, ICE is exploiting local law enforcement agencies, using them as force multipliers in its deportation drive, expanding ICE’s 287(g) program to a level never seen before. ICE wants local law enforcement officers to join its masked deportation forces, as they violently arrest people in the streets without identifying themselves or the agencies they work for.

Using local law enforcement to go after immigrants will mean more racial profiling, more people afraid to seek police protection, more fear in our communities, and more Black and Brown people in immigrant detention. We must put a stop to this dangerous program, and the PROTECT Immigration Act would do just that by limiting the federal government's ability to enlist local and state police departments to enforce immigration law. Tell Congress: End the 287(g) program now and vote yes on this bill.

End the 287(g) program once and for all

I’m urging you to end ICE’s devastating program known as 287(g) now by passing the PROTECT Immigration Act. This bill would limit the federal government's legal authority to exploit state and local law enforcement agencies and turbocharge deportations of our community members. ICE has expanded this program more than 600 percent – without oversight, planning, or concern for the racial profiling that will result. By turning local police into a local weapon of ICE, this program drives fear in our communities, as deportations tear families apart.

ICE’s misuse of local law enforcement is threatening our communities: End this reckless program and pass the PROTECT Immigration Act now.

Sincerely,
