Cut Funding to ICE's Dangerous 287(g) Program

Across the country, as the Trump administration’s attacks on immigrants reach a fever pitch, ICE is exploiting local law enforcement agencies, using them as force multipliers in its deportation drive, expanding ICE’s 287(g) program to a level never seen before. ICE wants local law enforcement officers to join its masked deportation forces, as they violently arrest people in the streets without identifying themselves or the agencies they work for.

Using local law enforcement to go after immigrants will mean more racial profiling, more people afraid to seek police protection, more fear in our communities, and more Black and Brown people in immigrant detention. We must put a stop to this dangerous program once and for all: Tell Congress to cut funding to 287(g) now.

Cut funding to the 287(g) program

I’m urging you to cut funding to ICE’s devastating program known as 287(g) now. ICE has expanded this program more than 600 percent – without oversight, planning, or concern for the racial profiling that will result. By turning local police into a local weapon of ICE, this program drives fear in our communities, as deportations tear families apart. As raids on our communities increase – with masked agents violently arresting people in the streets without identifying themselves or their agencies – we must end programs that subject immigrant families to more abuse and cruelty.

ICE’s misuse of local law enforcement is threatening our communities: Cut funding and stop this reckless deportation drive now.

Sincerely,
