Special summer session for Black and Latinx lives

TAKE ACTION NOW

Police violence and racism were problems before COVID-19, and they’re still problems now. Connecticut’s COVID-19 “re”opening plan continues to particularly threaten Black and Latinx people’s lives. Now is not the time for state legislators to be absent.

The Connecticut General Assembly must come back in for a special session this summer to do the people’s work. That means a special session focused on diverting funds from policing to instead build safe and healthy communities, completely changing the police use of force standard, creating independent investigation and prosecution of police, creating an equitable COVID-19 response, and protecting voting rights for November. Legislators can and should come back into session safely (in a way that protects their and others’ health), and democratically (in a way that makes sure people’s voices are heard).

Black and Latinx people have been running our economy, keeping our state going, and serving on the frontlines as healthcare workers. The Connecticut General Assembly needs to stop the government from continuing to endanger Black and Latinx people’s lives.

Email your legislator right now. Tell them to call for an immediate special session for equity and justice.

Police violence and racism were problems before COVID-19, and they are still problems now. Connecticut’s COVID-19 “re”opening plan continues to particularly threaten Black and Latinx people’s lives.

As your constituent, I urge you to immediately call for a special summer legislative session focused on ending police violence and creating an equitable COVID-19 response. I am asking you to divert funds from policing to instead build safe and healthy communities, completely change the police use of force standard, create independent investigation and prosecution of police, enact an equitable COVID-19 response, and protect voting rights for November.

The policies I am asking you to address this special session are just the minimum of what people need to survive. I am asking you, as your constituent, to call for a special legislative session to get these things done.

Sincerely,
