Prosecutors hold people’s lives in their hands, but there is very little information available about their decisions. Yet those decisions affect everyone in our state: people accused or convicted of a crime and their families, victims of a crime and their families, and taxpayers who foot the bills for both prosecutors’ budgets and the cost of incarceration.
If Connecticut is going to create a smarter justice system, all of us need more transparency on what prosecutors are doing. Senate Bill 880 is a bill that takes critical steps toward increasing transparency in the justice system. If passed into law, the public would have information about prosecutors’ decisions in our state for the first time.
Your legislators need to hear from you about this important transparency bill. Tell your state representative and state senator to support S.B. 880.
