TELL LAUSD: OUR STUDENTS DESERVE BETTER
TAKE ACTION NOW
END RANDOM SEARCHES AT L.A. SCHOOLS
Students deserve to attend schools that are safe and welcoming.
But for many years, the Los Angeles Unified School District has implemented a disturbing practice of pulling students out of class, wanding their bodies, and searching their belongings. School administrators force students to lose valuable learning time to undergo this humiliating procedure even though they have done nothing wrong.
In August 2018, the L.A. city attorney and his Blue Ribbon Panel recommended that the school district suspend its mandatory metal detector search policy because of the harmful consequences it has on student trust and its ineffectiveness at promoting school safety.
But LAUSD leadership has failed to listen, and continues to ignore students impacted by these discriminatory searches, parents concerned for their children’s education and wellbeing, and now the city attorney and his panel’s findings.
LAUSD school board members and the district superintendent report to you.
