Call a Special Session to Pass New York for All

Act Now

As Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) terrorizes communities across the state and many of us fear going about our daily lives, the New York Legislature didn’t pass a single bill protecting immigrants and those at risk of deportation. This is a shameful abdication of lawmakers’ responsibility to our communities – and a gift to the Trump administration.

TAKE ACTION: Tell Albany leaders to call a special legislative session to pass the New York for All Act, which would keep our state out of ICE’s cruelty.

Now I’m writing to demand that you call a special session to pass the New York for All Act that will keep our state out of ICE’s cruelty.

President Trump’s mass deportation regime has sowed fear in New York’s immigrant communities. And he knows he needs to hijack local agencies like state and local police to work with ICE if he has any hope of reaching his goal of conducting the largest mass deportations in American history.

Because of this, many immigrant New Yorkers live with the fear that going about their life in the open and interacting with government agencies – whether in a routine police traffic stop, attending school, or visiting a public hospital for care – could lead to being torn away from family.

The New York for All Act, S.2235A (Gounardes) / A.3506A (Reyes) would prohibit state and local officers from doing federal immigration enforcement or sharing sensitive information with ICE, and it would keep ICE from entering non-public areas of state and local property without a warrant from a judge. Not only would it help immigrant New Yorkers lead freer lives and take care of family, it would keep state and local resources for community safety.

Targeting immigrant communities for deportation is Trump’s goal, but it will never be New York’s. You must make this clear by calling for a special session and passing New York for All.

Sincerely,
