Once again, anti-abortion extremists are trying to rob Arizonans of our abortion rights – even after voters overwhelmingly passed the Arizona Abortion Access Act, Prop. 139. HB 2681 would create unnecessary restrictions on medication abortion, a common method to safely end a pregnancy. HB 2547 would put health care centers that receive public funding at risk of losing vital funds if they even mention abortion to their patients.

Voters made it clear: abortion must be protected in our state. Contact your state representatives and tell them to vote NO on HB 2681, HB 2547, and any other bill that meddles with our access to abortion.

Arizona finally secured important protections to access abortion. Don’t take that away. Please oppose HB 2681 and HB 2547.

Message Body

HB 2681 would create harmful and unnecessary restrictions on medication abortion, a common method to safely end a pregnancy. Arizona’s new constitutional amendment clearly states that any abortion-related law must be “consistent with accepted clinical standards of practice and evidence-based medicine.” HB 2681 is a far cry from meeting that threshold – medication abortion is FDA approved, major medical associations recognize it as safe, and there are hundreds of studies conducted in the last 20 years that demonstrate its effectiveness.

HB 2547 would put health care centers that receive public funding at risk of losing vital funds if they even mention abortion to their patients. This harmful bill undermines patients’ well-being by preventing providers from explaining the full range of reproductive health services available to them. Even centers that do not provide abortion would be at risk of losing funding  – that means communities could lose access to maternal care, birth control, and HIV prevention and treatment.

Creating barriers to information and limiting access to care delays service and puts lives at risk. One size-fits-all laws have no place in health decisions, and lawmakers should not stand in the way of people getting the care they need.

Voters made it clear: abortion rights must be protected in our state. Dozens of restrictive laws have led to difficult and dangerous consequences for people who need abortion care.  A majority of Arizonans believe that only patients and providers should be involved in making healthcare decisions about pregnancy and abortion — free from government interference.

Arizona cannot go back to the state dictating people's reproductive decisions. Please focus on legislation that can support, not hinder, the needs of pregnant people and their families.
